A suspect has been arrested in connection to the wildfire that broke out near the Illia Dunes on Saturday, according to the Garfield County Sheriff's Office.

The suspect, 22-year-old Jarrell Banks-Canady, was pulled over by a Whitman County Sheriff's officer and turned over to officers in Garfield County, where the fire occurred.

Witnesses saw a man shooting off fireworks toward a hillside just off the side of the road minutes before the wildfire started.

Garfield County Fire District 1 sent out a plane Monday to survey the burned area. Fire Chief Kris Darby said the smoke from the fire finally cleared Monday. An estimated 500 to 1,000 acres were burned in the fire. There was no property damage.

More information about the suspect and investigation will be posted as it is made public.
