Let's start this conversation off with one big topic. Very few of the new Jeremy Lin fans can actually spot the significance of his game in the NBA.

Here stands a player that not only has been able to wow the crowd, as well as many NBA administrators, but has also showcased a Harvard education.

Let's face it — throughout the years many of the leagues top players have not been able to exemplify a top stat line academically. But Lin, well it seems he is hitting the mark in every category right about now.

Just a few weeks ago, NBA columnist, bloggers and analysts were just about ready to write the New York Knicks off as a competing team without a true point guard. Now that the Knicks have the undrafted Harvard graduate in their starting line up, they have once again risen to the tops of everyone’s praises.

Aside from Lin having his name tossed around with other NBA league greats statistically, and even Tim Tebow in regard to his media hype.

But I think it is very deserving for Lin to also receive a little credit for showing that not only can you make it in the NBA after going undrafted, but you can also receive an amazing education.

At some point or another the league and the rest of its fans have to get back to what really matters when considering some of the top prospects in the country.

Scouts go to these schools, talk some of these prospect up on how they can truly make it in the NBA, and rarely focus on how they are doing in classes.

It is completely understandable that most student athletes' only desire is to make it in their respective professional sport. But no one knows what is going to happen if the sport goes into a lockout situation, as both the NBA and the National Football Association did earlier this year.

What will these athletes have to fall back on if that happens once more?  Or what will happen when they get hurt and cannot play anymore?

Lin, among some other professional athletes, is an example of a great role model for up-and-coming athletes.

Get your education and follow your passion. In the end, everything will play out the way it should.
