I have a very eclectic taste in music. With songs from every decade of the past century and more on my iPod, I never know what's going to play when I hit shuffle.
Everyone loves that magical moment when their favorite song (of the moment) comes up. It immediately brings a smile to my face and makes my early morning drudge to class bearable.
Why can’t clothes make me feel this way too? Next to my early morning soundtrack, getting dressed is my favorite part of the day. To add some spice to my morning routine, I decided to combine the two into a fun fashion experiment.
For the next month, I am going to begin the day by popping in my ear buds and hitting shuffle. Whatever song plays will be the song I base my outfit on, and I have decided to share my favorites with you along the way.
Day 1: The shuffle gods decided to bestow unto me the song "All Night Long" by Lionel Richie. This song was my favorite for a solid week because it captures Africa’s rich history of joyful music and dance. With this in mind, I decided to pay homage to another aspect of African culture: color and patterns.
I paired leather fringe sandals with a knee length multi-colored leopard print dress. I have always been inspired by African jewelry, so I decided to layer a red wood bead choker and a yellow and green tribal inspired metal bib necklace. The neck cramps I felt that evening were completely worth it.
Day 2: "Country Boy" by Glen Campbell. While I am not the biggest fan of country music, I took a liking to Campbell on a road trip while my parents were reliving their ‘70s glory days. With a song about never forgetting your country roots, I had to dig deep into my soul to find that nugget of country spirit.
I chose to stick to dusty hues, creating a vintage country feel. I paired a brown suede button front circle skirt with a silk watercolor horse print tank top and a faded denim jacket. I wore the leather fringe sandals from the day before and a pair of large dusty rose and gold ornamental earrings to add some country glam.
Day 3: "Good Day Sunshine" by The Beatles. Yellow is one of my favorite colors, so I chose a yellow, gold and white pallet to keep things light and happy. I paired faded canary yellow corduroys and a white BP V-neck shirt with a gold scarf and canvas sneakers with crochet detail.
My ears were pretty sore from the day before, so I chose to go with a bracelet instead. I rocked my gold studded bracelet because when on its side, it looks like a sun. Clearly, I find great amusement in the little things in life.
You may be thinking to yourself, “Pics or it didn’t happen.” Wish to hold me accountable without being too much of a stalker? Fear not, you can track my outfits and follow my daily progress by visiting my blog on tumblr.
