I Facebook stalk like a champ, and I am not afraid to admit it. I’m a creeper. So much so, in fact, that they will probably make a Lifetime movie about it. But that is beside the point.
Through my Clay Aiken-style fly-on-the-wall escapades, I stay on top of what all the kids are wearing these days and take notes. Recently I’ve noticed a conspicuous trend that I am considerably less than pumped about, and curiosity is killing the fashion cat.
Since when did wearing the brightest colored bra imaginable under a completely transparent top become fashionable? The answer is never. This trend is really interesting to me, and others who poses common sense, considering the fact that the whole purpose of a shirt is to cover the chest.
Sheer fashions have graced the runway for quite some time. However, there is an air of class associated with Donna Karan and Ralph Lauren that does not exactly translate to the Saturday kegger.
It is inevitable that runway fashions eventually trickle down. Transparent mesh and woven tops are flooding into stores like H&M and Forever 21 right now.
This does not surprise or brother me whatsoever. I own a few of these tops myself, but before you jump down my throat with accusations of hypocrisy, I have a statement to make: that is what bandeauxs are for.
There is a difference between high fashion and trashy. On the runway, you can get away with more skin because of the presentation. Designers are displaying their art. However, there is nothing artful about disseminating your dainties while downing a Jell-O shot.
When it really comes down to it, I can even tolerate a full-coverage black bra underneath a transparent black shirt. What I cannot stand is when rhinestone-encrusted zebra-striped lingerie is blatantly visible.
I have seen too many pictures on Facebook of girls perpetrating this fashion offense. Congratulations, the world is now well-acquainted with your sweater puppies, and so are your future employers.
Once you put something on the Internet, it is there forever. Keep this in mind when you are posting those totally adorable pictures of you and your gal pals from the night before.
I understand that WSU already upholds a reputation for certain types of girls. If we are so audaciously hell bent on upholding this reputation, let us take the next step. Next time you go out, just don’t wear a top at all.
