The Cougars advanced to 4-1-0 on the season after beating Wyoming 3-2 Sunday at the Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex.
WSU freshman forward Kourtney Guetlein scored the game-winning goal late in the second half. Guetlein’s goal came in the 80th minute when she beat the keeper off a deflected ball from the Cowgirls defense.
Senior forward Brandi Vega opened the scoring with a goal into the left corner of the net in the 14th minute.
Wyoming junior midfielder Liz O’Reilly scored the equalizer on a free kick from 20 yards out with only a few minutes remaining in the half.
Early in the second half, junior forward Micaela Castain put the ball into the back of the net off a penalty kick. Castain’s goal was her sixth goal of the season and gives her a 1.20 points per game average.
The Cowgirls tied the game again with a goal in the 77th minute from freshman forward Jennifer Paul.
The Cougars win put a stop to the Cowgirls six-game winning streak.
"We played a good game, but made a few mistakes that they capitalized on, and you can't do that against a good team," said Wyoming Head Coach Pete Cuadrado in a press release.
The Cougars return to Lower Soccer Field on Friday with a match against Hawaii, then travel to Moscow on Sunday to take on the Idaho Vandals.
