Make sure to follow us along on Twitter tonight for our first #Tweetalong of the semester. Behave yourselves, Cougs.The Daily EvergreenI patrolled with Officer Ruben Harris, the officer in charge of the Greek Row beat. We started off in a car, but spent about 95 percent of the time on foot.
The #cougs are out to party and we're out to patrol. Greek row looks different alongside a police officerThe Daily Evergreenstopped a guy peeing off a balcony. "can I trust you to make better decisions?" asks officer Harris. "...yes." says guy. #tweetalong #cougsThe Daily EvergreenSomeone's already in handcuffs. #cougs are keepin it classy. #tweetalongThe Daily EvergreenThe public's response was amazing. They seemed pretty excited about the tweetalong! I actually met a couple guys who mentioned the tweetalong to me. "That's me!" I shouted...probably a little too excitedly. But seriously, following cops around for a night is an awesome experience.

Quite a few students knew him on a first-name basis, and several of them ran across the street to high five him.
Officer Harris is signing a girl's birthday sign/name tag thingamajig. Cheers! #cougsThe Daily Evergreen"I LOVE THE POLICE!" Shouts a girl. "i love your show, campus PD. Do you wanna card me? I'm 21" #hellyes #cougs #tweetalongThe Daily EvergreenIt's cool how totally invisible I am to other ppl. All they see is cops, & all they wanna do is high five officer harris. Seriously. #cougsThe Daily EvergreenIt was, however, pretty amazing how blatantly rude some people were to the cops when we walked by. As Officer Anderson (the other officer who accompanied us for about two thirds of the night) said, "We'll still help them when they need us."
The funny thing about this particular tweet below? At that moment, officers Harris and Anderson were helping a girl find the ring she dropped on the ground. They were just being nice, but:

Dude arrested on suspicion of breaking a window. Possibly intoxicated. wouldn't wanna be in his boat shoes right now. #tweetalong #cougsThe Daily EvergreenThat kid I was talking about earlier is now in police car, arrested for malicious mischief. #tweetalongThe Daily EvergreenAnd then this guy (later identified as Ronald Lewis Robinson) showed up:
"you're fuckin up your life man." - weirdly lingering guy to a police officer. #what? "do you believe in what you're doing?" #tweetalongThe Daily EvergreenMy goodness this is weird. Who verbally harasses a police officer? And stop dropping the F bomb, bro. #tweetalongThe Daily Evergreen"walk away" -says guy. "I can't, I have business here." "who are you to tell me to walk away?" -guy "Im a police officer of the state of wa"The Daily EvergreenTheyre asking him to take his jacket off, say he's threatening them, he's acting suspicions. He just told an officer to "shut the fuck up"The Daily EvergreenHe has walked away. #tweetalongThe Daily EvergreenWe later saw him lingering around Adams Mall, and then, as we walked by Phi Delta Theta, several guys yelled out, "He has a gun!"
That weird guy from earlier may have a gun, people are claiming. Officers have him on the ground. #tweetalongThe Daily EvergreenThey're cuffing him now. He is the one who verbally harassed the officers earlier.The Daily EvergreenConfirmed. The man did have a gun. Officers are now questioning witnesses. #tweetalongThe Daily EvergreenAccording to a third party witness, he "pulled a piece on some guys on the porch" at a frat. #tweetalongThe Daily EvergreenOfficers have enough info to detain the man. More info to come. #tweetalong #cougs #ppdThe Daily EvergreenAfter a verbal altercation with several Phi Delt men, Robinson had drawn his gun.
According to witness, man had gun tucked in the waist of his pants, pulled & cocked it, pointed it straight in air. #tweetalongThe Daily EvergreenOfficer questioning him, asks if he's tellin the truth. "don't challenge my integrity sir," says the man. He is now under arrest #tweetalongThe Daily EvergreenMan Arrested for unlawful display of a firearm. "I never unlawfully displayed a firearm" says man. Witnesses say he pointed it in air.The Daily EvergreenMan is now being put in police car. #tweetalongThe Daily EvergreenRobinson was also arrested for unlawful aiming of a firearm and unlawful carrying of a loaded pistol. At the time, the police had just arrested him on the one count they could find, then added the other two counts after the fact.
Officers Harris and Anderson spent at least 30 minutes questioning witnesses.

We've come across a kid lying on hillside face down. He says hes fine, seems at least semi alert. #tweetalongThe Daily EvergreenKid says his friends are nearby, officers want to stay with him to make sure he's safe. #tweetalongThe Daily EvergreenHis friends finally met up with him, and the officers took me home at about 2:30 a.m. I'll tell you one thing: my legs were sore.
