WSU women’s soccer travels to Laramie, Wyo. Sunday to face the Wyoming Cowgirls.
The Cougars (3-1-0) are coming off their first loss of the season last Sunday to No. 4 Duke during the USC Futbol Classic. They began the invitational with a 2-1 victory last Friday against San Diego.
Junior forward Micaela Castain scored both goals in the Cougars second half come-from-behind win against the Toreros. The game-winning goal came in the 76th minute off an assist from senior forward Brandi Vega.
Castain leads the Pac-12 in goals per game with a 1.25 average and is second in goals for the season with five.
The Cougars’ 3-0-0 start is the best start since the 2005 season.
WSU failed to keep their undefeated record when they fell 0-4 to the Blue Devils (4-1-0). The loss was the first game the Cougars failed to score a single goal.
The Cougars defense failed to stop Duke’s attack. Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Gurveen Clair allowed three goals in 75 minutes of play.
Wyoming (6-1-0) is on a 6-game winning streak after Thursday’s game, when they defeated Northern Colorado 2-0 in the second half.
The Cougars are 2-0-0 all-time against Wyoming with their 3-0 victory last season at Lower Soccer Field in Pullman.
